On 30 October in Stockholm, the Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian Embassies in cooperation with the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI) launched a presentation of the FOI report entitled “The Security and Defensibility of the Baltic States. A Comprehensive Analysis of a Security Complex in the Making”.
According to the Lithuanian Ambassador in Stockholm Eitvydas Bajarūnas, it is very important that officials and experts from Sweden and other Nordic countries are seriously debating is the security and defensibility of the Baltic States.
“Lithuania strongly backs the key conclusions of the study that the Nordic and Baltic countries should strengthen cooperation in the field of defence. However, security cannot be regionalised, and NATO remains the region’s most important security guarantee,” Bajarūnas told the participants of the event.
This report consists of a comprehensive analysis of the security and the defensibility of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, main problems and the concept of a Baltic Sea area ‘security complex’. According to the FOI report, the NATO and EU membership of the Baltic States is regarded as their primary security provider. |
