Aiming to further strengthen relations with countries in North and South America and to more effectively represent the interests of Lithuanian citizens overseas, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius appointed Svaja Vansauskas Worthington as Lithuania’s Honorary Consul in Alaska and Luis Octavio De Souza Bandeira as Lithuania’s Honorary Consul in Rio de Janeiro.
The Honorary Consulate of Lithuania in Alaska will be the first Lithuanian consular office in this North Western state of the United States headed by famous Professor Svaja Vansauskas Worthington, who is most venerable member of the Anchorage academic community of Alaska. Lithuania-born Worthington escaped to the West with her family at the end of the Second World War. Worthington has been living in Alaska since 1966.
There are currently 19 honorary consulates of Lithuania in the United States.
New Honorary Consul of Lithuania has been appointed also in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Luis Bandeira is Lithuania’s second Honorary Consul in Brazil. The country has another representative, Francisco Ricardo Blaževičius, in the consular district of São Paulo. |
