The Twentieth Anniversary of the Re-establishment of the State of Lithuania

The 11th of March 2010 marks the twentieth anniversary since the Supreme Council (Reconstituent Seimas) of the Republic of Lithuania declared the Act on the Re-establishment of the State of Lithuania, which “decrees and solemnly proclaims that the execution of the sovereign powers of the State of Lithuania, abolished by foreign forces in 1940, is re-established, and henceforth Lithuania is again an independent state”.

Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and diplomatic missions abroad are holding commemorative events, exhibitions of Lithuanian artists, concerts and seminars to mark the twentieth anniversary of the re-establishment of the State of Lithuania.

About the logo “Believe in Freedom”

The logo ‘Believe in Freedom’ was designed on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the re-establishment of Lithuania’s Independence. The main graphic symbol in the logo contains stylized patterns of woven Lithuanian sashes. The slogan ‘Believe in Freedom’ reflects the main value, which united the Lithuanian nation, helped it to keep alive the aspiration to re-establish the statehood and led towards the 11th of March in 1990.

The colours of the Lithuanian national flag in the logo represent Lithuania’s traditional values and freedom. The logo was created by designer Giedrė Jaronytė.

The tiniest graphic elements of the logo - rectangles and squares - form a pattern with traditional motives and at the same time allude to modern technologies such as a digital code. The original and modern expression of motives from the Lithuanian folk-art in the logo indicates the innovativeness of Lithuania.

The ‘flying’ particles of the sign symbolize the ideas spread by Lithuania, the communication, freedom, dynamics and openness to the world.

The logo (with the slogan in the Lithuanian and English) is used during the events marking the twentieth anniversary of the 11th of March, also in publications, posters, media and internet, on souvenirs and official document forms of state institutions.
