Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, visited Lithuanian on 11 July 2017. He had meetings with President of the Republic of Lithuania, Dalia Grybauskaitė, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Linas Linkevičius, and Minister of the Interior, Eimutis Misiūnas.
At their meeting, the ministers of foreign affairs discussed a possibility of more intensive bilateral cooperation in an economic field and exchanged views on a general political and security situation in the Middle East region.
“We believe an agreement on economic and technical cooperation to be signed in the near future will facilitate economic cooperation between our countries. Lithuania has friendly relations with this country of the Middle East. It has the largest Lithuanian diaspora in the region, with a Lithuanian Sunday school that has been functioning for the fifth year already. The flows of tourists from Lithuania to the United Arab Emirates have been consistently growing,” Linas Linkevičius said.
The memorandum of understanding on mutual recognition and exchange of driving licences, issued by the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Lithuania, was signed during the visit.
