Lithuania sends humanitarian aid to Spain
On 27 April, Lithuania sent essential medical supplies for combating the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) to Spain. The country provided humanitarian aid in accordance with the decision of Lithuania’s Government of 8 April and in response to Spain’s request for medical supplies to help fight the pandemic in the country.
"We are following Spain’s efforts to combat the pandemic. All must help each other as much as possible and come together to fight the virus. In the fight for lives, solidarity must find expression not only in words but also in actions," the Minister L. Linkevičius wrote in his letter.
Lithuania has allocated EUR 40, 000 in humanitarian aid to help Spain. The medical devices including disinfectant products were acquired from TEREKAS UAB, a plastic product manufacturing company operating in Kretinga, Lithuania.
L. Linkevičius thanked Spain for remaining a strong partner and ally of Lithuania, despite the many obstacles and challenges it had to face. Lithuania highly appreciates Spain’s contribution to ensuring security in our region. This month, Spain, together with the UK’s Royal Air Force, is taking over the NATO Baltic Air Policing Mission in Šiauliai for the seventh time. Thus, a military aircraft of the Spanish mission is carrying Lithuania’s humanitarian aid to Spain.
Spain is one of the hardest hit countries with more than 22, 000 deaths.
