    Lithuania officially inaugurates its Honorary Consulate in Guayaquil, Ecuador

    Lithuania opened its Honorary Consulate in Guayaquil, Ecuador’s largest city. It is headed by the entrepreneur Miguel Weisson Chiriboga.

    During the opening of the new Honorary Consulate, the Director of the Department of Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Oceania of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Eduardas Borisovas highlighted the importance of having the Consulate in  Guayaquil, the largest industrial and trade centre of Ecuador.

    “Beyond question, the opening of the Honorary Consulate of Lithuania in Ecuador’s major economic centre will open up new opportunities for strengthening economic cooperation between Lithuania and Ecuador,” said the representative from Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry.

    The new Honorary Consul in Guayaquil Miguel Enrique Weisson Chiriboga, who is an agricultural entrepreneur of Lithuanian descent, seeks to develop active relations between Lithuania and Ecuador in the fields of trade, culture, tourism, education and science.

    After the ceremony, Borisovas met with the President of the Guayaquil Chamber of Commerce, who presented Lithuania’s economic potential and proposed to develop cooperation between the ports of Guayaquil and Klaipėda.

    Between the years of 1994 and 2015, Judith Walker served as the Honorary Consul of Lithuania in Ecuador. Raúl Neptalí Jaramillo Andrade and Miguel Weisson Chiriboga were appointed as Honorary Consuls of Lithuania in Ecuador on 5 April 2017. On 26 June, the Honorary Consulate of Lithuania headed by Raúl Neptalí Jaramillo Andrade was officially opened in Quito, the capital city of Ecuador.

    Lithuania established diplomatic relations with Ecuador on 20 October 1992.
