The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania has allocated EUR 30,000 in humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.
The United Nations has called on the international community to urgently scale up its support for the country so that it can meet the rising humanitarian needs of more than one million people who are on the move, either internally displaced or returning from Pakistan. According to the organisation, Afghanistan is facing a humanitarian crisis as highly vulnerable people will experience the severity of the upcoming winter.
The funds will be channelled through the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
This aid is Lithuania’s contribution to international efforts to provide emergency humanitarian and disaster relief assistance.
In 2016, Lithuania allocated EUR 801.5 thousand in humanitarian aid, out of which 250 thousand euros were donated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.
